Strix or Zephyrus: Which One Do You Have?
The model line decides how upgradeable your laptop is, and that changes the offer. Check the name on the lid or the bottom sticker first.
The Strix and Strix SCAR (G513, G614, G814, G533, G634, G834) are the desktop-replacement line. They have two open RAM slots and two M.2 SSD slots.
Zephyrus (GA401, GA402, GA403, GA503, GU603, GU604, GU605) is the slimmer line. Its RAM setup depends on the year, and that is where sellers get caught out.

Why 32GB Matters So Much on the 2024 Zephyrus
The 2024 Zephyrus G14 and G16 have no RAM slots at all. Whatever memory was soldered in at the factory is what you sell.
That makes a 32GB GA403 or GU605 worth noticeably more than a 16GB one. Nobody can fix a 16GB unit later.
On older Zephyrus models and on every Strix, a buyer can still add memory. So low RAM costs you less there.
Check yours: press Win + R, type msinfo32 and read the installed memory. ASUS lists the official configurations on its G14 (GA403) spec page and G16 (GU605) spec page.
GPU, Screen and Cooling: What We Check
GPU wattage and screen type move the offer more than the badge on the lid.
- GPU: an RTX 4080 (12GB, 175W) Strix SCAR 16 is worth far more than an RTX 4070 (8GB, 140W). Tell us the exact card and wattage.
- Screen: a Nebula HDR Mini-LED panel (1100+ nits on the SCAR 16 and 18) sells higher than a standard Nebula QHD+ 240Hz IPS.
- Cooling: Strix laptops use liquid metal. On the bench we compare per-core temperatures in HWiNFO and Armoury Crate. A big gap between cores can mean the liquid metal has dried out.
- Lighting: we test AniMe Matrix, Slash Lighting and the Keystone II where fitted.
- Battery: run
powercfg /batteryreport. A swollen battery is a safety risk, so tell us before pickup.
The Charger Can Change Your Quote
An original ASUS charger is part of the sale. A 100W USB-C charger cannot replace the 240W, 280W or 330W brick.
Without the original brick, the laptop can’t reach full power in games or editing. So we deduct for a replacement.
The 2024 Zephyrus uses a proprietary rectangular plug. Only the original will do.
Bench tip: photograph the charger next to the laptop. It saves a lot of back and forth.
Before Pickup: Wipe Your Data
Sign out of your accounts and wipe the drive properly. Follow NIST SP 800-88
- Sign out of Windows and remove any BIOS password.
- Back up your games and files first.
- Strix owners can pull the SSD and keep it. We price the laptop as drive-removed, so leave the screw and bracket inside.
