Servers & storage

Sell your used servers in the UAE

We buy used and decommissioned servers across the UAE — Dell PowerEdge, HPE ProLiant, Lenovo ThinkSystem, storage arrays and rack hardware. Priced from what is populated inside, not from the badge on the front. Send an asset list. We quote per line.

What we buy

What server equipment do you buy?

Rack servers (1U, 2U, 4U) and tower servers. Dell PowerEdge, HPE ProLiant, Lenovo ThinkSystem, older IBM System x, Supermicro and white-box builds. Generation matters more than brand. A Dell 14G is a different conversation from an 11G. Anything older than that is usually assessed on the CPUs, memory and drives rather than as a working server.

Storage: SAN and NAS arrays, disk shelves, tape libraries. Network cards, RAID controllers, extra PSUs, rails, bezels, caddies. Empty caddies are worth leaving in — a chassis with no caddies loses more than people expect.

Switches, firewalls and the rest of the rack sit better on office IT equipment if they are coming out with the servers. We will still take a mixed rack as one job.

Drives in or out

Either is fine. A lot of organisations pull the drives and keep them. We then price the chassis, processors and memory without storage. If drives stay in, say the capacity and type (SATA, SAS, NVMe) and whether you need serials recorded against your register.

Indicative range

AED500 – 15,000

Per machine, depending on generation, CPU count, memory and what is in the bays. A populated 14G PowerEdge and an empty 11G chassis are not the same sale.

Valuation

How is a used server valued?

It is added up, not looked up. Two identical-looking 2U servers can be far apart depending on what is in the sockets and the bays. A photo of the front with the labels, plus a photo of the open lid, is often enough if a spreadsheet does not exist.

Remaining Dell ProSupport or HPE support can add something, and sometimes the entitlement transfers. Mention it. Cancelling or transferring the contract is cleaner before the hardware leaves the site.

How a used server is added up
PartWhat we need
Generation / modelPowerEdge R740, DL380 Gen10, ThinkSystem SR650. Service tag if you have it.
CPUsModel and count. Two Xeon Gold 6248s is not the same as one leftover Silver.
MemoryTotal GB and, if you know it, module size and type (RDIMM, LRDIMM).
StorageBay count, drive size, interface. Or ‘drives removed’.
ExtrasRAID card, extra NICs, both PSUs present, rails, bezel, remaining support.

Who can sell

Who sells servers to you?

IT departments refreshing a rack. Companies leaving a colo. Data centres retiring a row. Resellers with leftover stock. Schools and hospitals clearing a comms room. There is no minimum quantity. One tower server in an office cupboard is a message. A half-rack is a site visit.

Live racks and data-centre floors need planning: escorted access, goods lifts, loading bays, out-of-hours windows. Tell us the site rules early. We work to the facility, not the other way around.

What to send

What should be on the asset list?

If the machines are still racked, a photo of the rack front and the labels often tells us as much as a spreadsheet. Mixed loads are normal: working 14G next to a switch that has been off for two years. We price the live kit per line and the rest as a lot.

One row per machine

  • Model and service tag / serial
  • CPU model and count
  • Total memory
  • Drive count, size and type — or ‘removed’
  • RAID controller if known
  • Rails and bezel present or not

Process

How a server sale works

You send the list. We quote per line. We agree a collection that fits the site. Hardware is checked against the list, paid for, and you get an itemised record. Drives you hand over are erased before anything moves on; serials can be recorded against your register if you need the two records to match.

If your policy requires a specific destruction standard or a named document, raise it before collection so it is in writing. Office clearances that include servers as one line among desktops and printers can stay on that page — we will still price the servers properly.

Rails, bezels and the empty rack

Rails are easy to forget and expensive to replace for the next owner. If they are still on the posts, leave them on the machine. Bezels the same. An empty rack is worth listing if you want it gone — selling a populated rack complete is usually cleaner than parting it and leaving a 42U hole in the floor.

PDUs and UPS units on the same rack are part of the same conversation. A branded UPS with living batteries is a line item. A swollen consumer UPS under a desk is not. Photograph the back of the rack if you can.

Site and firmware

iDRAC, iLO, rails, and how to decommission a rack without losing the value

Management passwords (iDRAC, iLO, IMM, XClarity) need to be cleared or handed over in a way your security policy allows. A server that is still bound to a management account you cannot unlock is a delay. Default passwords that were never changed are common; we still need you to say the box is released.

Leave the rails on the machine if they are still on the posts. A 2U PowerEdge or DL380 without rails is harder to place and worth less than the same unit that slides into the next rack. Bezels and caddies the same. An empty 42U rack is a line item if you want it gone. Cutting the rails off to “make it lighter” is how a usable server becomes a chassis.

Generations we actually see in UAE racks

Dell 13G and 14G (R630/R640/R730/R740) and HPE Gen9/Gen10 DL360/DL380 are the everyday decommissions. 15G and Gen10 Plus hold as working systems if they are populated. 11G and older are CPU, memory and drive money unless someone needs a specific legacy app. Supermicro and white-box builds need a photo of the board and the CPU heatsinks — the front badge does not tell us the generation.

Support contracts: if ProSupport or HPE Support is still live, mention the expiry. Sometimes it transfers; sometimes it should be cancelled before the iron leaves so you are not paying for a box you no longer have. That is your call with Dell or HPE. We just need to know it exists.

Colo and data-hall check-out

Escorted access, a goods lift booking, and a window that is not the same hour as someone else’s cage move. Send the facility rule with the list. We work to the hall, not to a generic “afternoon slot”. A comms cupboard in a school is a different visit from a row in a data centre — say which, so we do not turn up with the wrong number of people.

FAQ

Server questions

Generations, asset lists, drives removed, racks, data centres, and support contracts.

What server brands and generations do you buy?

Dell PowerEdge, HPE ProLiant, Lenovo ThinkSystem and the older IBM System x, plus Supermicro and white-box builds. Generation matters more than brand: a Dell 14th-generation machine is a different proposition to an 11th-generation one, and anything before that is usually assessed on components rather than as a working server.

How is a used server valued?

It is added up rather than looked up. Processors are counted by model and quantity, memory by module size and type, drives by capacity and interface, then the chassis, RAID controller, network cards and power supplies. Two identical-looking 2U servers can be worth very different amounts depending purely on what is populated inside them.

What should we include in an asset list?

Model, service tag or serial, processor model and count, total memory, drive count with capacity and type, and the RAID controller if you know it. Rails and bezels are worth listing separately. If the machines are still racked, a photo of the rack front and the labels usually tells us as much as a spreadsheet.

Do you buy servers with the drives removed?

Yes, and for a lot of organisations that is the right way to do it. Keep the drives, keep the paper trail, and we price the chassis, processors and memory without storage. Empty caddies are worth leaving in — a machine with no caddies loses more value than people expect.

How do you handle data on storage we do include?

Drives you hand over are erased before the hardware moves on, and we can record serial numbers against your asset list so the two records reconcile. If your policy requires a specific standard or documented destruction, raise it before collection so it is agreed in writing rather than assumed.

Do you buy switches, storage arrays and rack accessories too?

Yes. Managed switches, SAN and NAS arrays, tape libraries, UPS units, PDUs, rails, shelves and the racks themselves. Selling a rack complete is usually worth more than selling the contents piece by piece and leaving the empty cabinet behind.

Can you collect from a data centre or a live rack?

Yes, though it needs planning rather than a next-day visit. Facility access, escorted entry, goods lifts, loading bays and out-of-hours windows all have to be arranged in advance. Tell us the site conditions early and we will work to whatever your facility requires.

What about servers still under a support contract?

Worth mentioning. Remaining warranty or support on Dell ProSupport or HPE equivalents can add value, and in some cases entitlements transfer with the machine. Either way, cancelling or transferring the contract is cleaner to sort out before the hardware leaves.
