Decommissioning Dell PowerEdge Servers in Dubai & UAE

A data centre exit goes wrong in the planning, not at the rack. Missing gate passes, heavy chassis and forgotten rails cost more than any price gap.
Send your site, unit count and models on WhatsApp (+971 52 857 3495) or use our server selling page.

Teams clearing a cage usually ask:

  • What does the facility need before we can enter?
  • Who lifts the heavy servers?
  • Do the rails and bezels go with the server?
  • How and when do we get paid?

Plan Access Early

Most colocation sites require advance approval to bring people and vehicles in and to take equipment out. Ask your facility what it needs, and allow time.

Rules differ between operators, free zones and commercial towers. Typical requests include crew names and ID details, vehicle plates, a method statement and a list of the serialised equipment leaving the site. Ask for the exact process in writing, and submit it well before the date.

Export the Service Tag list before anyone pulls a power cord. Servers are easier to match to the removal pass when the list is ready. For password and management access, see our guide on resetting iDRAC once it is published.

Ops note: keep one printed copy of the pass and serial list at the cage door. Security often asks for it on the way out.

De-Racking Safely

Rack servers are heavy and awkward. Plan a two-person lift for the larger chassis, and use a server lift where one is available.

Weight depends on the model and how full it is. A 1U R640 is manageable, while a fully loaded 2U R740xd or a 3U R940 is a serious lift. Check the weights in Dell’s technical guides for the R640, R740 and R740xd and R940. Never rely on one person at the front of a full chassis.

Leave network transceivers seated in their ports where the buyer expects them. Label cables before unplugging so reinstallation is simple.

Rails, Bezels and Cable Arms

The rails, bezel and cable arm belong to the server. Leaving them bolted to the rack is leaving money behind.

What to Take Out of the Rack

Inner and outer railsYes, kept as a pairBuyer needs a matched set
Front bezel and keyYesPart of the complete server

Dell rail kits are usually tool-less, but the exact release differs by kit, so check your model before pulling hard. Keep each pair together in a labelled bag.

On-Site Checks and Payment

A buyer checks the hardware on site against your list. Payment follows the terms agreed before the visit.

Decide in advance whether drives are pulled or wiped. Follow NIST SP 800-88 for sensitive data, and see our drive-removed server guide.

A full exit can include more than servers: switches, storage arrays, cabinets and UPS units. List them on separate lines. For the hardware valuation itself, see our PowerEdge guide.
